Ring Width Adjustment

A wide band fits differently than a thin one at the same numeric size. Enter your thin-band size and see how it changes for medium, wide, and extra-wide bands.

Enter the size that fits comfortably with a thin band (under 4mm). Not sure? Use the Ring Size Calculator first.

What width is the new band?

Enter your size and band width, then select Adjust my size to see your result here.

When to see a jeweler

For anything permanent — an engagement ring, a wedding band — always confirm your size with a jeweler before purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a wider band need a bigger size?

Fingers naturally taper and have a slight curve at the point a ring sits. A thin band only touches a small strip of that curve, but a wide band presses flat against a much larger area — including parts of the finger that are slightly bigger. That extra contact makes a wide band feel tighter than a thin band marked with the same number.

What size should I enter — my thin-band size or my current ring's size?

Enter the size that fits comfortably with a thin band, under about 4mm. If you only know the size of a ring that's already wide, that size already includes a width adjustment, so re-applying this tool would double-count it. When in doubt, measure the ring's inner diameter with the Ring Size Calculator for a width-neutral baseline.

I'm buying a stacking set with rings of different widths — what do I do?

Run each ring through this tool separately using its own band width. A thin stacking band and a wide statement band worn on the same finger can end up being two different numeric sizes, and that's expected.

Does this apply to men's wedding bands too?

Yes — the adjustment is based on physical band width, not gender. It matters even more for men's bands, which commonly run 6–8mm or wider, so the size difference compared to a thin band can be a full size or more.

My band is extremely wide (10mm or more) — is the extra-wide adjustment enough?

For very wide bands, some jewelers recommend going up a full size beyond your thin-band measurement, especially for comfort-fit profiles with rounded interiors. Treat our extra-wide adjustment as a starting point and confirm with the jeweler, who can check the specific ring's profile.
